BIA-MA West
The BIA-MA West office serves residents living in Western Massachusetts. This office provides
information, resources, support groups, and informal counseling to individuals with brain injuries, families,
and professionals in the Berkshires, Pioneer Valley, and Amherst/Northampton areas.
"We understand brain injury because we live with those issues in our own families - be they traumatic
or acquired injury. BIA-MA West has connected with a number of local professionals and facilities and we collaborate
to find the most appropriate help available."
- Suzanne Doswell
Western Regional Manager BIA-MA West has more than half a dozen support groups that provide support and social/recreational
activities for individuals with brain injury and their families, with the newest one in Northampton.
New Social Recreation Opportunity in the Berkshires
BFAIR Planning Brain Injury Social Program
BFAIR, Berkshire Family and Individual Resources, is developing a new social/recreational program for people
with brain injury and seeks information from interested parties. Funded in part by the Statewide Head Injury
Program, BFAIR's new "Social Club" will offer programs in both North Adams and Pittsfield.
The North Adams kick off planning meetings will be held on two dates, Wednesday, October 24th from 4:30pm-6:30pm
and on Saturday, October 27th between 12:30pm and 2:30pm at BFAIR's main office located at 771 South Church
Street, North Adams. Residents of North Adams, Adams, Cheshire, Clarksburg and Williamstown who live with
brain injury are invited to share a pizza meal and provide input to the staff as a new social program is
developed. (call Theresa Biagina at 1.413.664.9382 ext. 36 to register.)
The Pittsfield meeting will be similar in format to the one planned for North County with meetings being
at 53 Eagle Street on Thursday, October 25 at 5:30pm and again on Saturday, October 27 at 4:00pm. If you are
interested in attending on either day, please contact Carmen Gustavis at 1.413.443.9147 ext. 19.
