KEYS
The Keep Every Youth Safe (KEYS) program educates and empowers new drivers to make smart driving decisions and avoid injury on the road. KEYS explores the link between dangerous driving behaviors and the risk of sustaining a TBI, the most common cause of death and disability among adolescents and young adults.
The KEYS program includes:

Facts about and causes of brain injury

Information about high-risk driving behaviors (speeding, distractions, etc.)

Compelling videos from Massachusetts residents with TBI from car crashes
-
Prevention strategies to reduce the risk of crashes and TBI
KEYS is the only outside program recommended by the MA Registry of Motor Vehicles to fulfill Module 14 of the driver's ed curriculum.

KEYS Parent Program
The KEYS Parent Program educates parents on the link between dangerous driving behaviors and the risk of sustaining a TBI, the leading cause of death and disability for teens and young adults. The program encourages parents to coach, mentor, and become a positive role model for their child. The presentation incorporates some of the videos that the students watch during the KEYS program, to allow for a future discussion between the parent and the student. The program has additional slides pertaining to the parent's role, fulfilling many of the requirements made by the Commonwealth.

KEYS "One Split Second" DVD Toolkit
For schools that are unable to accommodate a KEYS program, BIA-MA is pleased to offer The KEYS ToolKit that enables driving instructors to conduct an abbreviated version of the KEYS program. The KEYS ToolKit features “One Split Second” DVD, a curriculum guide for instructors, discussion questions and interactive classroom activities for students, and a quiz.

The "One Split Second" DVD is also available for purchase separately from the toolkit. The “One Split Second” DVD gives students an informative and gripping video with facts & causes of brain injury, high-risk driving behaviors, stories from brain injury survivors, footage of car crash sites, and much more. The DVD is a good introduction for distracted driving and will help facilitate class discussions.
