Brain Injury X-Posed: The Survivor's View
‘Brain Injury X-Posed’ is the culmination of a 10-week PhotoVoice project undertaken by eight members of the BIA-MA’s ‘Amazing’ Brain Injury Survivor Support Group in Framingham, MA. The project, facilitated by Laura Lorenz, PhD, Barbara Webster, and Laura Foley aimed to give brain injury survivors an opportunity to express their point of view and experiences and share their lives with brain injury through the use of photographs and narratives.

The participants:

  • took photographs with a disposable camera;
  • talked together as a group about their photographs, their experience living with brain injury, and their issues, concerns, and strengths as brain injury survivors;
  • wrote narratives for selected photographs and grouped them in categories;
  • planned for an exhibit of their photographs and narratives;
  • reflected on their experience doing this project.

    This PhotoVoice project is now a traveling exhibit, moving to various locations across the state. In March 2009, the exhibit was on display at the Massachusetts State House in conjunction with Brain Injury Awareness month.
